Circa 1910, sterling, KALO, Chicago. This lovely sterling teapot, harmoniously combining American Arts & Crafts and Japanese aesthetics, was created shortly after the turn of the century. The sublime hand hammered finish has the elegant visual appeal of ripples on water. We believe this piece was intended for cabinet display or possibly for use with soy sauce (a very chic new condiment in the early 1900's). Fully functional and superbly constructed, it is a distinctive example by Kalo of Chicago, considered by many the most important American hand wrought silver smithy of the Arts and Crafts period. Excellent Condition.

Remarks from Lawrence Jeffrey: Its name taken from a Greek word meaning "to make beautiful," the Chicago based Kalo Shop was founded in 1900 by Clara P. Barck. The business was a vital influence in the American Arts & Crafts movement for nearly 70 years.
