Circa 1956. Sterling and ebonized wood, Gorham, American. This rare Directional pattern sterling martini pitcher by Gorham demonstrates the influence of biomorphic aesthetics in 1950s American silver. An identical example, which is part of the permanent Modernist American Silver collection of the Dallas Museum of Art, is pictured on page 268 of the book "Modernism in American Silver" by Jewel Stern. Superb condition.
